چکیده
The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis has been meticulously investigated in psychiatric illness, particularly in depression (Sachar et al. 1973; Sachar 1975). The Dexamethasone Suppression Test (DST) as a measure of the integrity of inhibitory feedback loops (Carroll et al. 1981; Stokes et al. 1984; Arana et al. 1985) of the HPA axis has received much attention. Though some controversy remains (Arana et al. 1985), there appears to be a general consensus that moderate to severe major depressive disorder (MDD), particularly in older inpatients, will lead to disinhibition of the HPA axis in a significant number of patients. A randomized clinical trial of cognitive behavioral therapy and interpersonal psychotherapy for panic disorder with agoraphobia.
BACKGROUND Interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) seems to be as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in the treatment of major depression. Because the onset of panic attacks is often related to increased interpersonal life stress, IPT has the potential to also treat panic disorder. To date, a preliminary open trial yielded promising results but there have been no randomized controlled tr...

متن کاملSub-threshold panic attacks and agoraphobic avoidance increase comorbidity of mental disorders: results from an adult general population sample.
Full-blown panic attacks are frequently associated with other mental disorders. Most comorbidity analyses did not discriminate between isolated panic attacks vs. panic attacks that occurred in the context of a panic disorder and rarely evaluated the impact of comorbid agoraphobia. Moreover, there are no larger scale epidemiological studies regarding the influence of sub-threshold panic attacks....
متن کاملAntidepressants and behavior therapy in agoraphobia and obsessive-compulsive disorders: a commentary.
Happily, it is no longer necessary to state that pharmacotherapy and behavior therapy are compatible. Unfortunately, however, it remains true that most therapists experienced in one are inexperienced in the other. It is for this reason that the editors have invited papers by two of the leading investigators of this interface. Dr. Zitrin reviews the evidence for the differential effects of antid...
متن کاملA prospective evaluation of agoraphobia and depression symptoms following panic attacks in a community sample of adolescents.
In a community sample of high schoolers who experienced their first panic attack, we examined the prospective relationships among pre-panic vulnerabilities, panic attack severity, and post-panic agoraphobia and depression symptoms. Students were evaluated yearly over 4 years to test the following four hypotheses: (1) pre-panic anxiety sensitivity, negative affect, and childhood behavioral inhib...
